Conjunctivitis is a common problem among all the age groups and is an irritating condition along with the symptoms like itching, redness, tearing, inflammation and burning sensations. Pink eye can be caused by bacteria, virus, or allergic reactions.

1. Cold or Warm Compress

  • Take a clean cloth and soak it in hot and cold water then wring out the excess water.
  • Place the cloth on the affected eye.
  • Leave it on the eyes for 10 minutes.
  • Repeat the process four times a day.

2. Boric Acid
Boric acid is supposed to be an excellent ingredient to sort wide range of eye problems like dryness, redness, burning sensation, tearing because it contains mild antibacterial property. It also helps in soothing the itching and irritation along with cleansing your eyes.
  • Boil a cup of water and mix one tsp of boric acid in this water.
  • Use it as eyewash or you can apply it to the eye using a clean washcloth or cotton balls.
  • Rinse your eyes with lukewarm water.
  • Repeat three times a day.

3. Calendula
Calendula is a kind of herb contains antibacterial and antiviral properties that are helpful in fighting against the conjunctivitis. It also soothes the irritation and inflammation.
  • Take two tsp of dried calendula flowers in a cup of hot water and steep them for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Allow it to cool and then strain the solution through clean paper.
  • Use this mixture as eyewash several times throughout the day.

4. Black Tea
Black tea is a good remedy for pink eye because the tannins are present in black tea that are supposed to reduce the itching and swelling. Also, there are present bioflavonoids in black tea which fight against the viral and bacterial infections.
  • Place moist and cooled black tea bags on your eyes for 10 minutes.
  • Do this process at least three times a day every few hours.
  • You can also use green tea or chamomile tea bags.
  • You can use a weak solution of black tea as eyewash.

5. Saline Solution
Saline solution is the famous remedy for solving the conjunctivitis as it works as a natural disinfectant.
  • Take a cup of distilled water and make it boil.
  • Now add one-half to one tsp of salt in it.
  • Allow it to cool then put it in your eyes using eye dropper.
  • Repeat the process several times a day.

Sea salt is also proved to be best for treating the pink eye. You can dissolve one tbsp. of sea salt in a cup of warm water and put three drops of this solution in the corner of the affected eyes with cotton ball or eye dropper. Do this remedy two times a day.

6. Eyebright
Eyebright, scientifically called as Euphrasia officinalis) is another amazing remedy to treat the eye problems including pink eye, bloodshot, sties, strained eyes and weeping eyes. it is also a herb which contains antibacterial properties.
  • Boil a cup of water and let it cool down.
  • Now add five drops of eyebright tincture to it.
  • Use this solution as eyewash.
  • Another option you can choose is boil one tsp of eyebright herb in a cup of hot water for at least 10 minutes.
  • Now cool it down then strain the solution and use it as eyewash, you can also add rose water.
  • Repeat the process every four hours.
  • Alternatively, you can take equal parts of eyebright and chamomile in boiling water.
  • Cool the solution, strain it and use it as eyewash.
  • Drink eyebright tea twice a day or you can take eyebright herb in the form of a capsule.

7. Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar contains antimicrobial properties that helps fight against the infection caused due to the pink eye. The malic acid is found in unpasteurized apple cider vinegar fight against the bacterial infections.
  • Mix two tsp of organic apple cider vinegar in a cup of filtered water.
  • Now dip a cotton ball in this solution.
  • Close the affected eye and wipe it using the cotton ball.
  • Do this remedy every few hours for at least three days.

8. Aloe Vera
Aloe vera is the best ingredient for your whole body problems including eye problems. So that it contains antibiotic and astringent properties that is why it is useful to help fight against the conjunctivitis.
  • Soak fresh aloe vera gel in a cup of cooled, boiled water until it turns its color to pale green.
  • You can blend the pieces also with water in a blender.
  • Put a few drops of this mixture in the affected eye, four times a day.
  • You can use as an eyewash as well.

9. Breast Milk
Yes, breast milk is also a good to treat pink eye, especially when it is caused in babies. Breast milk contains healing properties, agreed by the doctors possibly because it contains antibodies, specifically immunoglobin E.
  • Put a few drops of breast milk in the affected eye.
  • Repeat the process as needed.

10. Milk and Honey
When milk combines with honey, it becomes really a soothing remedy to treat the pink eye naturally. Milk calms the inflammation; on the other hand, honey contains antimicrobial properties.
  • Heat one tbsp. of whole milk in a slight manner.
  • Now mix equal amount of organic honey, stir it until it becomes smooth.
  • Put three drops of this mixture in the affected eye with the help of an eyedropper.
  • Do this remedy several times a day.
